Ascona-Locarno: A stage on the Grand Tour of Switzerland
In 2025, the Grand Tour of Switzerland will celebrate its tenth anniversary – a significant milestone for this iconic road trip through Switzerland, which also includes the Lago Maggiore region as one of its stops. But why Ascona-Locarno? Is it truly representative of Switzerland? Absolutely! This region showcases the Mediterranean soul of the country: a mild year-round climate, a laid-back lakeside lifestyle and palm trees that instantly create a holiday atmosphere. But once you leave the lake, you suddenly find yourself in the middle of nature and in front of the typical Swiss high-altitude mountains. The valleys around Lake Maggiore hold many secrets and traditions. With their charming mountain huts, waterfalls, lush meadows and colourful forests, they offer a true fairytale backdrop. On an excursion to the valleys, a visit to a grotto, the typical Ticino tavern where traditional specialities based on local products are served, is a must.
Since 2024, the Grand Tour of Switzerland has also been available in an accessible version, designed for individual travellers and small groups, with tailor-made routes adapted to the specific needs of participants, such as limited mobility or other special requirements. An initiative that makes the experience even more inclusive and accessible to all.
In fact, two photo spots of the Grand Tour of Switzerland are located in this region, one in Ascona and another on Cardada. So, off you go on your trip to Ascona-Locarno! By car, by motorbike or even by train - with the Grand Train Tour of Switzerland.
