The Ticino cuisine has its origins in the pre-Alpine, mainly Lombard, traditions and culture. Despite these influences the Ticino cuisine can be described as regional as it is based on products from the local territory. The best examples of the Ticino Cuisine are the "Grotti", typical and simple taverns of very rustic-style, in quiet hideaway places as well in the shadow of trees. Here you are offered exclusively local products and dishes: salami and cold meats, the vegetable soup Minestrone, risotto, polenta with joint of roast beef, rabbit, mushrooms and a choice of hard and creamy cheese.
Among the Ticino wines the Merlot would be the most renowned and appreciated.
