World-class Orchestras and renowned maestros have contributed to the name of the Settimane Musicali of Ascona being lifted into the Olympus of the great classical music festivals. Its history confirms that almost without exception, the world's most renowned artists have visited Ascona at least once, with many others returning several times: from Wilhelm Backhaus, host of the first "Settimana Musicale" in 1946 to Alfred Cortot; Clara Haskil to Dinu Lipatti; Arthur Rubinstein to Geza Anda.
Beyond the pure enjoyment of classical music, the technique and passion of great international artists, the picturesque setting of the Churches Collegio Papio in Ascona and San Francesco in Locarno, from the 2013 edition innovative aspects are at stake. This is the vision the new Artistic Director Francesco Piemontesi has in mind for the festival.
