Molecular mechanisms of muscle growth and wasting in health and disease.
Skeletal muscle is needed for movement and metabolism. Loss of muscle contributes to frailty and to disease severity. Further, muscle communicates to the rest of the body, and there are systemic changes as a result of age that contribute to disease. We will discuss cutting-edge research on the molecular mechanisms causing age-related disorders, including sarcopenia and frailty, with the aim to foster knowledge needed for the development of future therapies.
