Did you know that Ascona-Locarno enjoys more than 2300 hours of sunshine a year? Not for nothing are we known as the sunniest spot in Switzerland.
The first rays of sunshine
When the sun slowly wakes from hibernation, Lake Maggiore is the perfect place to take advantage of it. Relax on one of the red benches dotted along the lakeside promenade and bask in the warmth while watching the sun's rays glistening like diamonds on the water; walk along the river without a jacket, or have a lie-down in the sun somewhere after lunching at a grotto restaurant.
What if it rains?
Running out of ideas? Missing those days curled up on the sofa? Don't worry, we've some great suggestions for things to do:
Relax on a terrace
Sitting at a stone table, enjoying the local cuisine beneath a pergola of climbing plants.
Take a tropical photo for back home
Emerald green water and rocks shimmering white in the sun? No, it's not the Maldives, but the Verzasca valley. A spring walk on the Sentierone.
Out and about
The possibilities are so vast that it's hard to decide. One thing's for sure: it's never boring. From themed trails to leisurely walks along the river, from cultural tours of museums, monuments and historical attractions to classics along the lake promenades in Ascona or Locarno. On foot or by bicycle.
A game of golf
This season's perfect for a game of golf or minigolf. The sun's out, the meadows are green, the scent of flowers hangs in the air and it's not too warm. Did you know that Ascona was home to the first minigolf course in the world to open after the concept was granted a patent? It remains true to its original design to this day. Make sure you pop in for a round!
Have a break
With so much to see and do, don't forget that you're actually here to unwind and take things easy. Very easy, like a real Ticinese. Have a coffee or ice cream, sit back and let the locals regale you with stories.
Watch out for sunburn!
The Ticino tan can make people a little envious. If you're out in the sun and don't fancy any unwelcome surprises, use sun lotion, wear a hat and sunglasses and drink plenty of water. Back home, your (non-red) tan will make everyone see red!
