The museum, opened in 1980, is housed in the Eppers’ studio and is home to works by Ignaz Epper (1892-1969) and Mischa Epper (1901-1978). The collection includes oil paintings, drawings, watercolours, woodcuts and sculptures by the two artists, who chose Ascona as their temporary place of residence before settling there permanently in 1932. Ignaz Epper is considered one of the most sensitive exponents of expressionism in Switzerland. Also, on display at the museum are drawings and sculptures by his wife Mischa – also active in the Ascona Marionettentheater – which reveal her focus on the character and psychology of her subjects.
Temporary exhibitions by other artists are also held at the museum. There are no permanent exhibitions about Epper.
Guided tours on demand.
