The continuing restrictions on culture do not stop LocarnoFOLK: the first concert of LocarnoFOLK Events 2021 will be broadcast live via streaming. The "zero kilometre" group Pierino e i lupi will take the audience on a musical journey through space and time, between ironic folk and poetic jazz.
The pieces of Pierino e i lupi (Peter and the wolves) are a series of sound images that often propose small trips, as their titles indicate: Chiasso, Romoos, Hitzkirch... Toys, music boxes or bells recall the world of childhood.
The project is the brainchild of Peter Zemp, born in Lucerne but now living in Ticino, who combines his North Alpine roots with a profound knowledge of Italian folk music and a sensitivity to jazz. The result is music that is slightly melancholic, tranquil but at the same time ironic, with multifaceted timbres and changing atmospheres, with excursions into dissonance and noise.
The musicians accompanying Peter Zemp (accordion, piano and bonsai keyboard) have been collaborating with him for many years: Simone Mauri (clarinet, bass clarinet) and Paolo Botti (viola, banjo, trumpet), both of whom work across the Italian border, and Santo Sgrò from Lugano (percussion and toys).
The concert will be streamed live from the Lemura Recording Studio in Montagnola with the support of Coop Cultura, the Canton of Ticino - Swisslos Fund and the Locarno Foundation for Culture. LocarnoFOLK invites its loyal audience to support this initiative by making a free online contribution.
