Switzerland Underwater- A journey through Switzerland`s most pristine lakes and rivers. An underwater photo exhibition in Verzasca River by Valeria Machado.
Switzerland Underwater consists of an underwater exhibition, taking place at the Verzasca river more precisely in Pozzo della Misura (known as Amsler pool) - Ticino, Switzerland. The theme of this exhibition, as described in the project name, is of Swiss landscapes shot half underwater, showing the beauty of pristine lakes and rivers through a different perspective.
The exhibition goal is to raise awareness of the growing pollution problem of Swiss rivers. Studies made by the researchers from the Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology confirm that 5 rivers in Switzerland’s central plateau region are heavily polluted in spring and summer by a cocktail of different pesticides, of which a third are problematic and exceed official limits Another research study conducted by scientists from the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne confirmed the presence of small plastic pollutants in six Swiss lakes and the River Rhône.
