The route starts at the SBB station in Locarno-Muralto and initially leads with a pleasant ascent on a paved road up to Monte Brè. It is followed by a slightly steeper section with a spectacular view into the Centovalli. About 3 km after the village of Brè, the first part of the singletrail begins, initially slightly ascending, then flat and flowing until a final climb up to Alpe Cardada.
The singletrail leads fast and over technically demanding switchbacks to Val Resa. Coming out of the dense forest, the road then leads back to the starting point over a beautiful stretch with panoramic views of Lago Maggiore and the town. The route is technically moderately demanding. It features sections with varying difficulty levels as well as easier and flowing parts.
As an alternative, you can take the (stand) cable car from Locarno to Orselina and then walk in 5 minutes from Orselina (395m above sea level) to Cardada (1,340 m above sea level). This option is recommended for those who want to avoid the initial uphill section of the route and only tackle the section towards Val Resa.
