Leaving tower-filled Bellinzona, crossing the flat vegetable garden of Ticino - Piano di Magadino. Remnants of the floodplain landscape with its amphibian and bird diversity can be found in the Bolle di Magadino nature reserve; in the holiday area at Tenero, countless campers gather at the campsites on the shore of Lake Maggiore.

Along the crowded lakeside promenade, it goes to the bustling Locarno, not far from the quiet, glamorous Ascona. After the lush gardens of Pedemonte, the mightiest river in Ticino, the Maggia, shows its power: at Ponte Brolla, it has carved into the light gray gneiss, split the rock, hollowed it out, and polished it.

Life was hard in the romantic Valle Maggia, comfort was offered by the church. On a fresco in the church of Sta. Maria delle Grazie in the village of Maggia, Saint Lugozonus serves a large cheese to the poor. In the historic Palazzo Franzoni in Cevio, the Museo di Valmaggia describes the life and survival of the valley's inhabitants.
