From Locarno via Tenero to the other side of the lake. Along the lake past the pretty villages of Gambarogno to Dirinella, the border with Italy. To Luino, where the famous market is held every Wednesday, the road is fairly flat. From km 39 there are some short climbs and sections away from the lake follow. In Laveno you can take the ferry to Intra and shorten the tour. Sesto Calende is at the bottom of Lake Maggiore. Here you cross the lake and the way back begins. Also, on this side of the lake you pass through beautiful villages such as Arona, Stresa or Verbania, where it is worth stopping for a while. Cannobio also has a weekly market, which is very popular and always takes place on Sunday. In Brissago, cross the Swiss border and go on to Ascona, then back to Locarno.
Author’s recommendation
As the roads are busy with commuting traffic during rush hours, we advise you to avoid these times. Bring an ID with you, as part of the tour goes through Italy.
