Explanation
This tour through the Onsernone and Vergeletto valley (approx. 50 km) starts and ends in Verscio, home to the Teatro Dimitri. Head for Cavigliano and then take the road on the right leading into the Onsernone valley and the start of a long climb. The villages here seem to cling to the mountainside. The road splits at the Ponte Oscuro (via Russo) bus stop. Ignore the road to Spruga and take that to Vergeletto. Farina Bóna, a flour made from roasted maize, is made in Vergeletto, making the area smell like popcorn. Further up the valley, a cable car goes from Zott to Alpe Salei. The road ends at the Fondovalle restaurant in Piano delle Cascine. Return to Verscio following the same route.
