Nikhil Das: Bansuri
The bansuri is a side-blowing flute originating from the Indian subcontinent. It is a bamboo aerophone used in Hindustani classical music. In the Rigveda and other Vedic texts of Hinduism, it is referred to as venu, nadi and tunava. Their meaning and function are explained in the Sanskrit text Natya Shastra.
Today, the bansuri is one of the most popular instruments in North Indian classical music and is always played together with the tabla during concerts.
