80 years Road of the Poles

The Road of the Poles is perhaps one of the most important constructions in Ticino of Polish and Ukrainian internees in the 1940s.

During the Second World War, hundreds of soldiers were accommodated in the municipality of Losone in a camp set up in the area where the former place-of-arms stands today.

During their stay in the Locarno region, the refugees contributed to the construction of the road that was named after them. Inaugurated in 1942, the Polish Road still connects Arcegno with the Centovalli today.

To celebrate 80 years since its construction, the Municipality of Losone and the Polish Embassy invite the population and the Polish community in Switzerland to a commemoration at the former Losone Barracks.
