Carlo Agostino Meletta, who was born in Loco in the Onsernone Valley in 1800 and died in 1875 while frescoing a church in Valfurva (Valtellina), was one of the most renowned folk painters in Ticino.
Known to this day for his work as a portrait painter, he is presented in a new guise through an exhibition and a monograph: a fresco painter of churches, chapels and homes and the author of ex-votos of exquisite workmanship.
The exhibition and the publication reveal the portrait of a man who, like many of his fellow countrymen, travelled the path of emigration, but kept alive and deep ties with the social and cultural reality of the valley, entrusting it with precious traces of his art.
