Livia Balemi
Born in Tenero and grew up in a large family.
She lived in a rural environment, a modest, simple person and very close to nature, she loved her land living among many flowers in the company of her beloved cats.
With her sisters she ran the Grotto Scalinata frequented by artists, intellectuals and politicians who appreciated her for both her culinary artistry and her artistic vein.
In her spare time she would apparate in her “cornöcc” to paint. In her largely self-taught artistic training, she took in-depth courses in Brera and Zurich. With her teacher and friend Ester Gaini Meli, she further refined her technique.
Now her paintings bear witness to a rural world with familiar characters against the backdrop of an intensely lived faith.
This exhibition will be the first in our new location; in fact, the Gallery has moved to the Palazzo Branca-Baccalà, a precious historic, baroque building that has just been magnificently restored and will become the “House of Culture” of the village of Brissago and will be able to strengthen its role as a promoter of art and culture.
