With a unique program and outstanding musicians such as the world-renowned violist and chamber musician Isabel Charisius (violin/viola), Hadži Gregor Bugar (viola), and Hadži Danilo Mi?i? (piano/composition), this evening promises an extraordinary musical experience.
The concert offers a special fusion of Romantic and modern works.
Alongside compositions by Robert Schumann, Felix Mendelssohn, Lili Boulanger, Frank Bridge, and Arvo Pärt, we will present the world premieres of two works by Hadži Danilo Mi?i?, which captivate with their fusion of diverse styles and spiritual depth.
The first part of the concert is dedicated to works for viola and piano:
Robert Schumann’s "Adagio und Allegro" opens the evening, transporting the audience into the passionate and melancholic world of Romanticism. The composition elegantly shifts between lyrical tenderness and dramatic intensity, making it a perfect introduction to the concert.
This is followed by the world premiere of "????????? ??????????" (Prayer Miniatures) by Hadži Danilo Mi?i?, a contemporary work distinguished by post-Romantic minimalism and profound spirituality. The final piece in this section is "Fratres" by Arvo Pärt, a timeless masterpiece of minimalism. With its floating simplicity and meditative power, the music seems to suspend time, offering a spiritual journey through sound and silence.
The second part of the evening is dedicated to the rarely heard combination of two violas.
Frank Bridge’s "Lament for Two Violas" (1912) will be performed, a composition of melancholic beauty that conveys deep emotions and gentle sorrow. This piece sets the stage for the world premiere of "Triptych for Two Violas" by Hadži Danilo Mi?i?. Composed in a neo-Baroque style, this triptych explores new dimensions of sound, merging the refined forms of the Baroque with a modern expression that bridges past and present.
The third part of the concert begins with Robert Schumann’s "Drei Romanzen" (1849).
Each Romance unfolds a unique emotional world, characterized by the delicate dialogue between viola and piano and an intimate, poetic musical language. This is followed by "Deux Morceaux pour violon et piano" (1914) by Lili Boulanger, a moving combination of lyrical beauty and dramatic intensity. Boulanger’s exceptional talent for expressing deep musical emotions in both subtle and powerful ways is evident in every moment of this work.
The grand finale of the evening is Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy’s Piano Trio in C Minor MWV Q3, an early work by the composer that already reveals his distinctive blend of dramatic energy and lyrical elegance. This rarely performed trio unfolds an impressive range of emotions, bringing the concert to a powerful close.
This chamber music concert creates a bridge between Romanticism and modernity.
More contemporary works (Boulanger, Bridge, Pärt, Mi?i?) engage in a dialogue with the great Romantics such as Schumann and Mendelssohn, allowing past and present to meet in an exciting and emotionally rich musical journey.
