DeMusica and Calicantus at the Papio di Ascona

The celebrations for the 30th anniversary of Calicantus continue with the International Review "Bridge of singing" that will host in Ticino a mixed choir of particular artistic stature, the Ensemble DeMusica of Fribourg, directed by Maestro Philippe Savoy. The cultural review is part of the main objectives of the Calicantus Singing School, which since 1995 has invited choirs from Armenia, Australia, Brazil, Estonia, Russia, South Africa, etc. to perform. The joint concert is scheduled for Saturday 30 September starting at 8.30 p.m. in the Collegio Papio Church in Ascona. Founded in 1986, the vocal ensemble DeMusica focuses on exploring repertoire from the Renaissance to the 21st century, whether classical, romantic, sacred or secular. Sometimes with audacity, it revisits the large repertoire of folk songs from the canton of Fribourg, our country and international folklore. It regularly performs in Baroque and Romantic productions for choir and orchestra, such as Buxtehude's 'Membra Jesu Nostri' or Mozart's, Cherubini's and Fauré's Requiems, Haydn's 'Die Schöpfung' or Mozart's 'Coronation Mass'. On the programme on Saturday 30 September, works by Arvo Pärt, Nikolay Kedrov, Francis Poulenc, Frank Martin André Ducret and others.
"Bridge of singing" is a UNESCO concept and part of the music programmes that aim to promote peace through song and encounter. To underline the UNESCO concept, DeMusica and Calicantus will perform a joint work, 'O filii et filiae' by Ivo Antognini.
The project is made possible thanks to the support of the Republic and Canton Ticino and the Associazione Amici del Coro Calicantus. Admission free with offerings.
