Ascona

18.10.2024

The concert program offered by Gruppo Vocale Cantemus under the direction of Maestra L?ga Liedskalni?a explores the Baroque repertoire with works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Dietrich Buxtehude and Henry Purcell. Among sacred pieces and virtuosic performances, highlights include Bach's motet “Jesu Meine Freude,” whith contrapuntal complexity and spiritual intensity, and Dietrich Buxtehude's “Missa Brevis.”  Soprano Dafne Colombo will enrich the Baroque part of the program with an Aria from the Passion according to St. John BWV 245 “Ich folge dir gleichfalls” , while organist Andrea Pedrazzini will perform Philip Glass' “Mad Rush,” a minimalist piece that alternates moments of stillness and intensity, evoking a dynamic meditation. A contemporary work, that offers a modern contrast to the rest of the program and constitutes an interesting musical dialogue between different eras.
