In June 1902, in Milan, the “piscinine” – very young apprentice seamstresses aged between six and thirteen – went on strike for five days, bringing the city’s fashion industry to a standstill. Their protest marked one of the first moments of collective awareness regarding women’s and children’s labour.
This forgotten story is told by two pigeons, two creatures that inhabit “the squares” and who, in their words, reflect our contemporary perspective, all too often weary and disillusioned in the face of history’s challenges.
