Marianne Werefkin. Un grido d'allarme contro il progresso

From to

The Municipal Museum of Modern Art in Ascona always displays a selection of works by Marianne Werefkin (Tula 1860-Ascona 1938), mainly belonging to the Marianne Werefkin Foundation, a permanent guest of the Museum, which with about 90 paintings and 170 sketchbooks, as well as various drawings and numerous written documents, is by far the most important the collection of this extraordinary artist.
The current choice focuses on the contrast between nature, man and technology, a theme dear to the artist interrogating herself about the negative consequences of a rapid industrialization of society, in the difficult transition between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, from a still rural dimension to an urbanized and increasingly alienating one. A theme that is still relevant today.
