Explanation
This red-and-white waymarked hike starts in Cimalmotto, at alt. 1405 m one of the highest villages in the Ticino, and leads high up into the alpine landscape of the Rovana valley. The linear walk is varied and offers wide-ranging views of the surrounding mountains.
After the start on an asphalted road, you follow a forest path that descends gently down to Pianelli and the Fiümigna bridge. You cross the bridge and follow the new path up to the Alpe di Sfii, which is attended in summer. The larch forest in the background glows golden in autumn.
After a short descent, the ascent to the Lago di Sfii is a little more strenuous. It's nestled in a basin and surrounded by lush meadows and high mountains. The lake assumes various shades of blue depending on the light, and the crystal clear water reflects the surroundings. You go back to Cimalmotto the same way; make a prior note of the bus times back to Cevio.
