Gresso, the starting point of this beautiful day hike, can be reached by car or bus (towards Spruga with a change at Russo). Gresso is an idyllic village characterized by pretty houses with refined wooden balconies. The Onsernone Valley is known for its rugged landscape. Leaving the village, you enter a forest and climb a steep slope towards Monte, a small mountain village. A mule track leads through steps and lush pastures down to the valley before ascending again to the beautiful Alpe di Biètri. After another short climb, you descend towards Alpe Bassa, from where there is a beautiful view of the Vergeletto Valley. The descent to Pian della Crosa (where there are nicely renovated farmhouses) is gentle and mostly in the forest, making it particularly pleasant on hot summer days. The last part of the route back to the valley becomes steep again. At Gresso, it is possible to take the bus again.
