Route from Lake Maggiore to Lake Lugano.
From Locarno through the Magadino plain to the opposite shore of the lake, in Gambarogno. Following the shore of Lake Maggiore, the border is crossed up to Luino, where the first major climb begins. A slight up and down leads to Ponte Tresa on Lake Lugano. In Lugano, you cycle along the lake up to the famous Parco Civico Villa Ciani. Leaving the city center (about 63 km), the climb towards Ponte Capriasca and Monte Ceneri begins. After reaching Monte Ceneri, the descent follows towards Cadenazzo. At Quartino, turn in the direction of Locarno and reach the starting point on Lake Maggiore passing through Tenero.
Author’s recommendation
Since the roads are crowded with commuter traffic during peak hours, it is recommended to avoid these times. It is advisable to carry an identity document, as part of the route passes through Italy.
