The road winds through houses, climbing up to Contra, where you get great views of Lake Maggiore and Locarno area. Leaving Contra, the road leads over the Verzasca river through a sparse forest. It then passes through a long tunnel (1300 m), so it is recommended to continue on the old road to the right. The route will be a bit longer, but at least in daylight.
