The route leaves Locarno along the lakeside promenade and cycle path to Gordola, where the climb towards the famous Verzasca Dam begins. The ascent continues steadily to Brione, offering beautiful views of the emerald-green river and passing iconic landmarks such as the Ponte dei Salti in Lavertezzo.

Beyond Lavertezzo, the ride becomes more varied, following sections of the renowned Alta Verzasca Bike trail. Well-maintained gravel tracks and flowing trail sections lead to Sonogno, a charming Alpine village at the head of the valley. The adventure continues into the wild landscapes of Val Redòrta and Val Vegornèss, reaching the remote hamlet of Cabiói, surrounded by unspoilt nature and far from the beaten track.

    Author’s recommendation

In summer, the Verzasca Valley is very busy. It is therefore recommended to do this route early in the morning. Furthermore, due to the large number of tunnels, the use of lights is mandatory for all bicycles in the Verzasca Valley!
