The route from Cevio to Bosco Gurin, the highest village in the canton of Ticino, climbs more than 1000 metres in 16 km. This is a popular challenge with road cyclists too. Bosco Gurin was even a stage finish of the Tour de Suisse in 1997. The road winds its way up to Linescio and then follows the Rovana river for a long stretch. It passes through shady forests and open landscape, deeper and deeper into the valley. The road splits at Cerentino, heading to Bosco Gurin in one direction and to Cimalmotto in the other. The last few kilometres to Bosco Gurin are again very steep, the road hugging the rock face and offering great views of the high mountain peaks. Bosco Gurin is a picturesque Walser village with vernacular architecture. You return to Cevio following the same route.
