Mugena
From flour to bread, from milk to cheese
Let’s pay a visit to the farm run by Marco and Isa Scoglio in Mugena, in the Malcantone area. The landscape of gently rolling hills and dense vegetation extends from Lake Lugano to Monte Lema. This typical farm produces cheese all year round, as well as cold meats, jams and biscuits during the Christmas period. To get to Mugena we will catch the train from Lugano or Lamone-Cadempino and then continue by bus. After visiting the farm (in the company of the bilingual guide), the first workshop will get underway. Each participant will be given some dough to work and transform into delicious bread with a mouthwatering aroma, which can be eaten here while it’s still warm from the oven or taken home. During the second workshop, we will learn how to make a fresh cheese. Our gastronomic experience will then continue with an aperitivo featuring products from the host farm. After concluding our visit with a walk among the chestnut trees, all we have to do is decide whether to return to Lugano with the guide or remain in the Malcantone area for lunch. In the latter case, the guide will be happy to provide advice and details of characteristic local eateries. Meanwhile, those who want to be pampered could opt for an afternoon of relaxation at the Kurhaus wellness centre at Cademario Hotel & Spa.
