Scuola Nautica Sonia boasts a long history and tradition on Lake Maggiore in Ticino. Founded in 1972, the school was created by Sonia with the aim of sharing her passion for boating with everyone wishing to learn how to navigate and become captains.
Matteo Malvestio, instructor at Scuola Nautica Sonia, began his nautical journey at sea, where he approached the world of sailing, participating in regattas and sailing for leisure.
After moving to Ticino, the lake became a constant presence in his life. One day, after purchasing his first motorboat, he discovered a passion for teaching.
In 2025, driven by this strong dedication, he took over Scuola Nautica Sonia. Since then, his passion has become his profession: Matteo now teaches the fundamentals, the art, and the secrets to becoming an excellent future captain.
The instructors at Scuola Nautica Sonia are young and experienced professionals who share their love for the lake and motorboat navigation with students taking on the challenge of becoming captains. Through both theoretical and practical lessons, students learn how to navigate safely, explore Lake Maggiore, handle the boat during manoeuvres and moorings, and respect navigation rules as well as the various types of vessels that populate the lake.
