The first edition of Generali Run The Sun brings a marathon, half marathon, 10 km, 5 km, walking formats and a kids run to Lake Maggiore.
On March 5-7, 2027, the Ascona-Locarno region will host the first edition of the** Generali Run The Sun – Ascona-Locarno Marathon**, set to become the first marathon of the year in Switzerland. This new major sporting event will allow thousands of enthusiasts to kick off the season in a unique setting, characterized by the mild climate of Lake Maggiore and particularly varied and spectacular routes.
The event offers various distances designed for all levels of preparation. The Marathon takes participants for 42 km along the shores of Lake Maggiore, crossing the region's most iconic lakeside promenades and some of its most evocative landscapes. The Half Marathon, starting from the Tenero Sports Center, takes runners to Locarno along a smooth and panoramic route. The 10 km, also available as a Walking version, is the ideal distance for those who want to experience the atmosphere of the event along an accessible route full of lake views. The 5k - GP Città Vecchia Locarno takes participants through the historic heart of the city, through narrow streets, squares, and the famous Via delle Monache climb, which adds a touch of character to the race. The program is rounded out by the Kids Run, dedicated to younger runners, who can experience the thrill of running around Piazza Grande. The heart of the event will be Locarno's Piazza Grande, which will host the Event Village with activities, entertainment, food and beverages, and spaces dedicated to partners. The PalExpo FEVI will host the large Expo Area, a hub for bib collection, meetings with companies and brands in the running sector, and numerous activities for enthusiasts.
