Kalnejas is an acoustic trio that blends the sounds and stories of Latvian folklore with the freedom of jazz and the intimacy of the singer-songwriter tradition. Their music includes both rearranged traditional pieces and original compositions, interwoven with fragments from the Latvian folk song archive Cabinet of Folksongs. The trio creates a minimal acoustic sound that balances space and calm within the noise of modern life. Their original piece Raganiņa was included in the ethnic music compilation Sviests 9, while the tracks Lejas I and Lejas III, the latest chapters of their musical trilogy, appeared on the compilations representing Latvia at the 2022 and 2025 editions of WOMEX, the most important international world music fair.
