La Via Lattea 22 - In cammino con Rilke: Only/Mitsou

The event brings together Morton Feldman’s “Only”, staged with a choreography by Tiziana Arnaboldi, and the opera-film “Mitsou” by Claire-Mélanie Sinnhuber and Jean-Charles Fitoussi.

Programme

As part of the second movement of La Via Lattea 22. In cammino con Rilke, this evening combines dance, voice and opera-film.

• Only by Morton Feldman is presented in a new choreography by Tiziana Arnaboldi.
• The work is inspired by Feldman’s composition, itself based on one of Rilke’s Sonnets to Orpheus translated into English.
• The piece is a tribute to the young dancer Wera Ouckama Knoop, who died at an early age.
• Performers: Anne Schmid (voice), Lisa Ferretti and Francesca Zaccaria (dance).

Opera-film

The second part is Mitsou, an opera-film for four voices and seven instruments by Claire-Mélanie Sinnhuber and Jean-Charles Fitoussi, with Ensemble SoloVoices, Ensemble RMR and Bruno Dal Bon as conductor.

A distinctive feature is the combination of film and live voices: the actors in the film are voiced live by singers.

Story

Mitsou tells the true and poetic story of the friendship between Rilke and the young Balthasar, who would later become the painter Balthus, revolving around the figure of the cat Mitsou. The film was shot in Switzerland, especially in Valais, where Rilke spent the last years of his life.
