The Swiss artist has long brought together music and painting in his work. The exhibition highlights the expressive power of sound, gesture and movement through two central groups of subjects:
- portraits of major performers from classical music
- figures in motion inspired by dance
About the artist
Born in Muralto in 1963 and based in Bellinzona, Alvaro Stoppa studied music at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milan and taught music education for nearly forty years. Since 1991 he has worked almost exclusively with acrylic on canvas. Since 2009 he has focused in particular on portraits of renowned classical musicians and on bodies in motion.
His painting transforms musical impressions into colour and form, with special attention to expressive gesture.
