The Garden of the Righteous of Locarno

Locarno inaugurates the Garden of the Righteous with a public ceremony at Parco della Pace followed by a film screening at PalaCinema.

Inauguration

Locarno officially inaugurates the Garden of the Righteous, a project promoted by the Fondazione Federica Spitzer in collaboration with the City of Locarno.

The site is dedicated to the memory of Polia Rusca, Lilly Volkart, Luigi Lüisin Rusca and Wladimir Rosenbaum, figures from the Locarno area who, in different times and circumstances, chose to oppose injustice and place their humanity at the service of others.

Programme

The public ceremony is followed in the evening by a screening of “Irkalla: Gilgamesh’s Dream” (2025) by Iraqi director Mohamed Al-Daradji, shown in the original Arabic version with Italian subtitles.

Context

The inauguration marks the culmination of a path that began in spring with four events devoted to the lives and stories of the Righteous identified by the historical commission. The new garden creates a permanent place of remembrance and reflection on solidarity, freedom and individual responsibility.
