Explanation
Day hike in sunny Gambarogno. Scenic ridge hike to Poncino della Croce on red and white mountain trail.
The Alpe di Neggia can be reached by bus via a winding road from Vira. The red and white tour starts through the Val Vadina in the direction of Tamaretto. The long mountain ridge that extends to Poncino della Croce can be seen from afar. A little below the crest, the trail follows the lightly wooded mountain range. On reaching the ridge, where the path continues up and down, the landscape changes. A fantastic view of Lake Maggiore and the Magadino plain rewards the climb. On the grass-covered ridge, the trail goes below the Poncione del Macello, over the Cimetto to the Uomo del Sasso. The large summit cross, which gives the Poncino della Croce its name, is enthroned on the summit. The trail zigzags down through the forest to the Monti di Vira and finally all the way down to Vira on the lake. From here you can take the bus, train or boat.
