The Alpe di Neggia is reachable by bus from Vira via a winding road. The white-red-white marked trail crosses the Val Valdina in the direction of Tamaretto. From afar, you can glimpse the long ridge that extends up to the Poncino della Croce. Just below the ridge, you walk along the slightly wooded mountain chain. Upon reaching the ridge, where the trail continues with ups and downs, the landscape changes. The reward for the effort of the ascent is a fantastic view of Lake Maggiore and the Magadino Plain. On the grassy ridge, you descend below the Poncione del Macello, pass the Cimetto, and reach the Uomo del Sasso. At the summit, a large cross stands, giving the Poncino della Croce its name. You descend in zigzags through the forest down to the Monti di Vira and then further down to the lower part of Vira along the lake. From here, you can take the bus, train, or boat.
