Explanation
Winter hike along the sunny slopes of the Maggia valley. A beautiful tour for sunny winter days above the river Maggia.
From Coglio, accessible by bus no. 315, the trail leads through the pretty centre of the small village. Above the village, turn right onto the hiking trail in direction of Maggia. The panoramic path runs through the sparse forest at the beginning, then over meadows, stone slabs and stairs in the open terrain. You reach a crossroads where stone steps lead directly down to Maggia, or you continue up the stairs and follow the signs to the Cappella della Pioda, a small chapel whose origins probably date back to the 15th century. After the short climb, you can already make out the small chapel and the heroic vineyard below. From the chapel, the path descends steeply to Maggia, where the bus departs. Those who wish can return to Coglio along the Maggia river.
