By cable car (operating from June to October) you reach Robièi, the icy universe to explore. At 8 different stations, a brochure for sale provides information on the local natural landscape.
A short stretch on an asphalt road leads to the dam of Lake Zött. A steep climb through the alpine peaks leads to the rocky spur of Pizzo Pecora, from which those not suffering from vertigo can admire the Bavona Valley from the cliff. Until a few years ago, the landscape was still covered in ice, which explains its barren appearance and the presence of very few very recent flora specimens.
From the moraine, you then descend downwards: pay attention to the slippery ground! Gradually the landscape changes, making way for green pastures.
It is then possible to stop and stay overnight at the mountain hotel or the Basòdino hut and buy Vallemaggia cheese at the alpine dairy. San Carlo is reachable by bus (check the timetables).
