Explanation
This two-day tour to the Capanna Cornavòsa starts and ends at Lavertezzo, which is reachable by car or bus (Locarno-Tenero-Sonogno route); the must-see two-arched bridge, the Ponte dei Salti, is one of the Verzasca valley's landmark monuments.
The Val Pincascia is a long, very wild valley through which the path wends its way in woodland – perfect for summer walking. The hamlet of Pincascia, where the path divides, marks the start of the very steep ascent to the Capanna Cornavòsa (open June-October). This unattended refuge with stunning views is situated on a large summer alp nestled in the mighty mountainscape of the Verzasca valley.
The hike to the Capanna Fümegna follows a white-blue-white alpine trail, which is exposed in places. The alternative to this is to return to Lavertezzo from the Capanna Cornavòsa the way you came up. Fümegna is an attended refuge (open June-October) on a summer alp. The way back down again passes through the Val Pincascia.
