The starting point of this short hike in the Bosco di Maia forest reserve is Losone, located between Ascona and Locarno, reachable by car or bus. In Losone, above the San Lorenzo district, you leave civilization behind and enter the forest. You cross the Bosco di Maia forest reserve on a well-trodden path towards Ortighee and Ciossa. The reserve consists of 100 hectares of deciduous forest between Losone and Arcegno with oaks, ashes, lindens, cherry trees, alders, maples, birches, and chestnut trees. The reserve is one of the first protected parks in the Canton of Ticino (since 1998) and is of national importance. Near Ciossa, you can take a detour to a small lake located a bit lower. In the forest reserve, there are also some raised hills where you can let your eyes wander into the distance and read interesting informational panels. The bus returns to Losone.
