Mergoscia is a small village located on a slope with a view of Lake Vogorno and Lake Maggiore and can be reached by car or bus. On the long route rising to Alpe di Bietri, you pass through several small hamlets. The Mergoscia Valley is very open, and only a few short stretches pass through forest. At Alpe di Bietri, it is easy to encounter grazing cows.

Experienced mountaineers can make a detour to one of the peaks above, Cima della Trosa (approx. 1h 10min) or Madone (approx. 1h 30min). Between Alpe di Bietri and Bassa di Bietri, the route crosses a beautiful beech forest. Below Mount Cimetta, you descend to Monti di Lego, where you enjoy a spectacular view of Lake Maggiore; here you can refresh yourself – and stay overnight – at Capanna Monti di Lego. Nearby there is also a small chapel and a small lake.

From the pass, you descend back to Mergoscia via an easily passable path. Check the bus schedule in advance.
