The Holy Wood of Mergugno is unique in Switzerland. It is home to an abundance of mountain laburnum, a small tree that reaches a venerable age. It profoundly permeates the atmosphere of the place, especially between May and June with its large, very fragrant yellow-gold flowers.

In fifteen minutes from the post office of Brissago, passing through the hamlet of Incella, after a series of returns you reach Monte Mergugno. At the parking located at the end of the road starts the path (direction "Al legn, Ghiridone").

In about twenty minutes and you find yourself in a beautiful meadow with rhododendrons and some solitary laburnum, which stand out beautifully against the slopes of the Monte Ghiridone. At the time of flowering, between May and June, this place is a veritable mecca for botanists and nature lovers. The yellow mountain flowers are truly unique. But the best is to come.  A further twenty minutes and in fact you can admire the most impressive specimens: corrugated, cracked, cavernous and twisted. They are great individuals, dwellings of demons of nature, some on the ground in slow decomposition. The atmosphere invites to walk slowly. The forest scenery is unique, the panorama over Lake Maggiore breath-taking.
