Rasa is the only car-free village in Ticino. It can only be reached by cable car from Verdasio or on foot. This mountain route begins with a gentle climb above the nearby hamlet of Monti to Termine. From here, following the signs for Pizzo Leone, the path continues with a steeper ascent. Looking down, it is possible to admire the elongated shape of Lake Maggiore stretching like a fjord to the wide opening of Piano di Magadino. The view to the north, however, is completely different: deep valleys and wild gorges form the picturesque landscape of the Centovalli. A panoramic path follows the mountain ridge in a pleasant descent towards Alpe di Naccio and the Corona dei Pinci. From here, the path descends with many bends through Purèra and Non to Porto Ronco. Porto Ronco is a charming port village on the shores of Lake Maggiore. Above Porto Ronco lies Ronco s/Ascona, where it is worth visiting the Church of San Martino.
