An alpine landscape made of rock walls and wild nature surrounds the circular hike of Lake Robièi. Let yourself be enchanted by the impressive Basodino glacier: a sparkling white cap set against a striking play of granite. Admire the perennial snows and the crystals on the path that shine in the sun and savor an excellent "Vallemaggia" cheese, fresh butter, and ricotta.
From San Carlo in Val Bavona, immersed in an alpine territory characterized by boulders, rock walls and wild nature, starts the cable car leading to Robiei, the starting point of this circular route. The cable car is undoubtedly the most comfortable and spectacular way to reach Robiei and admire the surrounding landscape suspended in the void, a unique feeling. In only 15 minutes, you will reach 1900 m in the beautiful Robiei area at the foot of the Basodino glacier, near the homonymous dam, where you can enjoy a magnificent view of the Ticino Alps.
The Basodino is the most imposing and important glacier in Ticino: a sparkling white cap reaching 3273 m and standing before a grand landscape of granite and gneiss. From the upper cable car station starts the hiking path that leads to the left shore of Lake Robiei. The panoramic point is located on the saddle leading to the road to Lago Bianco. Then you descend on the right side, and it is interesting to note that not only the lake and glacier meltwater shine in the sun, but also the crystals on the path: Robiei is indeed known for its mineral wealth.
Reached the end of the lake, the path diverts to alpine pasture Lielp, where cows, goats, and pigs are found and where excellent "Vallemaggia" cheese, as well as butter and ricotta, are produced. Then continue with a slight ascent towards the Basodino Hut. Here, paying some attention, it is possible to observe numerous wild animals like marmots, ibexes, and chamois resting on the ridges. Then return to the cable car arrival station where the itinerary ends.
