There is no doubt: walking through the Verzasca Valley all along its length is an experience not to be missed. Ideally, spend the night in Sonogno and enjoy the morning tranquility. The crystal-clear emerald green waters, the smoothed rocks, the fragrant bushes, the risotto in the grotti along the way … the walk along the valley is a fully immersive sensory experience. A delight for the eyes is undoubtedly the Ponte dei Salti in Lavertezzo, the slender two-arched stone bridge from the 17th century spanning the Verzasca river.

But the valley is not just an idyllic paradise. Whoever walks the beautiful mountain trail from Corippo to Mergoscia, observing the landscape, will soon discover that only a few decades ago life in the valley was anything but idyllic. The alpine pastures on tiny terraces, now overgrown with bushes, testify to how tough the struggle for survival was only a century ago. This section therefore has as much historical value as the village of Corippo, declared a monument of national importance, and that of Mergoscia, which in recent years has transformed into a holiday home center.
