Explanation
Sonogno, the last village in the Verzasca valley, can be reached by car or bus (Locarno-Tenero-Sonogno route). This easy walk on a good path starts at the playground/ice rink, where you start by crossing the bridge and then follow the Redorta on the other side.
A few minutes later you reach the awe-inspiring La Froda waterfall, some 100 metres in height. You could cross the bridge here and return to Sonogno. Alternatively, continue along the Costa della Valegia to Corte and cross the stream there.
The walk back is on the road with little or no traffic. You might like to pop in to the Grotto for a meal. Back in Sonogno, stroll around the alleys of this ancient village, which has the feel of a museum: traditional stone houses, balconies with flowers, cobbled streets, little shops selling local produce, and restaurants. Make sure you visit the local museum and the House of Wool.
