This delightful two-day tour high above the Verzasca valley starts in Vogorno, which can be reached by car or bus (Locarno-Tenero-Sonogno route). Steep steps lead past a beautiful bathing area through the fairytale forest reserve Val della Porta to Rienza. After a breather, the extremely steep ascent continues to the Capanna Borgna. Pause every now and then to appreciate the amazing views far over the Lago Maggiore. On arrival at the refuge, the spellbinding mountainscape is all yours.
Beverage and food staples may be purchased at the refuge (open June to October) and cooking possibility is provided.
The second day starts with a stony ascent to the Bocchetta di Rognoi, at which point a detour to the Pizzo di Vogorno is possible (around 1 hr, white-red-white path not maintained by Ascona-Locarno Tourism). The descent from the Bocchetta is very steep and stony. The path negotiates dense woods down the long Val Carecchio to Lavertezzo and the bus stop (Locarno-Tenero-Sonogno route).
