This simple yet enchanting winter walk begins at Locarno Monti, reachable by bus or by the funicular to Orselina. Those who don't mind climbs can start the walk already in Locarno. Once you reach Orselina, it is worth making a small detour to visit the Sanctuary of Madonna del Sasso, which stands on the rocky promontory of Orselina and offers an incomparable view of Lake Maggiore. The Church of the Holy Trinity in Locarno Monti is also worth a visit.
From now on, the hike truly begins. Climbing the stairs and entering the chestnut forest along the hiking trail that crosses it, you arrive just above the village of Orselina. Shortly afterwards, already heading towards Brione sopra Minusio, the path crosses the Rabissale stream and, roughly at the same elevation, leads to the Capela Rota, an incomplete 15th-century building located above Brione sopra Minusio.
You cross the picturesque Roman bridge over the Navegna stream and descend towards Contra, where you can take the bus back to Orselina or Locarno. If you want to extend the walk, you can continue on foot to Tenero and from there follow the charming lakeside walk back to Locarno (about 1h15). An easy-to-follow walk ideal for winter, to spend beautiful sunny days surrounded by nature and enjoy magnificent views of the lake and surrounding mountains.
