The route begins with a section on paths immersed in the woods above Locarno, offering spectacular views of Lake Maggiore. After about 2 km, you enter the historic Mulattiera di San Bernardo, a charming paved path stretching about 2.5 km through woods and ancient terraces. This mule track is a precious example of rural architecture from times past, skillfully built to connect valleys and facilitate the passage of people and goods. Its stone surface and constant gradient make this section particularly picturesque and challenging.
After the mule track, the trail continues towards Cardada, then Alpe Cardada and up to the panoramic platform of Cimetta. From Cimetta, the highest point of the route, the view spans an incredible contrast between the lake and the majestic alpine peaks.
