Swisstainable Programme

Swisstainable is a combination of the words “Swiss” and “Sustainable”. The programme supports the continuous development of more sustainable tourism in Switzerland and highlights the commitment of participating organisations through three progressive levels.

Level I (Committed): Partners at Level 1 have demonstrated a clear formal commitment by endorsing the principles of sustainability and committing to implementing responsible practices in their operations.

Level II (Engaged): Partners at Level 2 meet the programme criteria, hold at least one sustainability evidence or proof recognised by Swisstainable in at least one of the three core areas (environmental, economic, or social), and have defined measurable actions to further improve their performance.

Level III (Leading): Finally, partners at Level 3 represent a consolidated commitment, holding recognised proofs covering all three pillars of sustainability.

As part of the cantonal project, Ticino Turismo, in collaboration with Ascona-Locarno Tourism, the other regional tourist organisations, and with the support of Quantis, has developed practical guides to promote and facilitate partner participation in the Swisstainable programme. The guides are tailored to different types of establishments. In addition, a list of best practices has been created, organised into five areas – Climate and Nature, Mobility, Territory and Identity, People, and Responsibility – designed to help providers concretely improve their sustainable performance.
