The Valle di Lodano, with its old beech forests, is home to a rich variety of flora and fauna and is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Already in Lodano, you enter the forest and follow the red-and-white marked trail up to Castel. A large clearing with a stream and numerous rustic buildings – the ideal place for a break.
The long path to Alp da Canaa steadily ascends and crosses the heart of the beech forest, where you can admire centuries-old trees; once arrived, you have a view over the entire lower Vallemaggia. The Alp da Canaa hut was renovated in 2005 and is open from around mid-May to the end of October. Those who want to complete the route in 2 days can stay overnight by reservation.
The descent towards Solàda first leads to Alp di Pii, where there is a small biotope. From the panoramic point just above, you can enjoy a limitless view of the valley to the north and also to the south. Then you continue descending through the forest to the road, cross the vineyards, and return to Lodano.
Day 1: Lodano - Castèll - Alp da Canaa, 6.5 km, 4h 30 min.
Day 2: Alp da Canaa - Alp di Pii - Solada - Lodano, 8 km, 3h 10 min.
